First Thought
This cover is just breathtaking, from the font to the elegant dress to the mysterious woman. The way the model is posing is not one of my favourites but if you are able to look past this the rest is beautiful. Everyone used to gush and talk about this series and as it is a popular YA I decided to pick it off my shelf.
That was it. I slapped him. "You idiot!" I whisper-yelled at him. "I hate him! I loved you! I wanted you; all I ever wanted was you!"
Strength
Our main character America is a strong individual who is not afraid to stand up for what she believes in and doesn’t see the beauty whiting her. As for Maxon and Aspen, this love triangle is just frustrating but understandable. As a girl, you can easily relate to the emotion that America is going through in deciding between her first love and a potential second one or just being happy alone. Usually, slow-paced books annoy me but the selection was just right. The slow process of the selection with no plots or action underway made the novel enjoyable to read.
"I didn't want to be royalty. And I didn't want to be a One. I didn't even want to try."
Weakness
There are many important events that happen during this book but the author did not showcase any of the “closed doors” events? What did Celeste tell Anne, What exactly did one of the girls say to Maxon, what do both nations of rebels really want, and much more. This book is missing a lot of answers & action for my taste.
Conclusion
Overall this book was easy to read and was mostly entertaining when things were actually happening. It took me two months to write this review, therefore, I’m keeping my train of thought to basics before I change my review to a 2.
