Graduation, It's Just One More Piece Of Paper

Graduation

grad·u·a·tion

noun

. the receiving or conferring of an academic degree or diploma.

.the ceremony at which degrees are conferred.

It is such a big word and it’s supposed to make you feel important and, of course, proud. A piece of paper given to you for all the effort and success you have accomplished during your schooling. One small moment of fame to congratulate you on your future career. But what if I tell you it doesn’t stop there. What if I say that your learning and struggles won’t stay behind on that stage once you hold onto your diploma. You might have succeeded with straight A’s in College/University but real life isn’t there to hold your hand and cheer you on. No, it will try to destroy you.

You will feel like you are finally free to start your life; greet career, beautiful apartment/house, and a happy little family. But the truth is that most of us will have to struggle to achieve these goals. I am not trying to discourage you, am just trying to give you a heads up. The world is wired into rules and order. You will see individuals walking toward work dressed in their most professional suit, coffee in hand, and ready to impress their boss. With one focus in mind “survive another day at work”.

Once you graduate, they’re going to throw you to the wolf alone in this world to fend for yourself. You’re going to walk into hundreds of workplaces trying to make them give you an interview but the truth is you don’t have enough experience. Those 4 years of college/university that you work so hard to achieve that single piece of paper wasn’t enough. They’re not looking for new grads still fresh with a mindset that they are unstoppable.

“We are looking for an individual with at least 3-year experience.”

"Excellent customer service skills; at least 2 years’ experience.”

“At least 1-year experience in a sales role. Call center and/or

financial industry experience is an asset.”

But don’t give up hope, work hard in your life and you will get recognized for it. Push yourself to show them how important of an asset you will be for the company if they hire you! If you give up there is no way to know where your life would have taken you so instead of saying what if, DO IT! Every day you will learn new things, meet new people, and have the opportunity to achieve greatness so don’t hold yourself back. Shoot for the stars even if people tell you your dreams are not going to succeed. The only way to succeed is by trying and doing.

I used to dream about what my life would be in the future but now I just take it one step at a time. Let the world lead me in the right direction as everything happens for a reason. It might happen tomorrow or in 5 years but while you are on this beautiful journey enjoy every moment of it. Don’t put your family or friends aside they’re the ones that will motivate you and push you toward your dream. Some might do the opposite and tell you it’s not worth it but show them that they were wrong.

P.s.: You can do anything once you put your mind into it!
